Be Wiser Kawasaki’s Danny Buchan set the second quickest time during yesterday’s MCE British Superbike test at Donington Park, but he felt he could have gone even faster but he ran out of fuel while he was putting down a hot lap.

Buchan had a successful Spain test a few weeks ago and is really comfortable onboard the Kawasaki. With team manager Tommy Hill giving him his full support the young Essex lad wants to go into the opening BSB round in a positive frame of mind – and already feels like he has over achieved after the test on Thursday.

The reigning Pirelli National Superstock 1000 champion only went out in the third testing session and feels he has more to give after a 1’31.367 lap. But he is well aware that race-day is where it counts, and is not focusing too much on the lap times he set on Thursday.

“I am feeling quite comfortable with the bike and the team - and it is more bonding time for me and the team. It doesn’t mean as much being second fastest but it is nice to come away with that time,” said Buchan, speaking to bikesportnews.com from the team truck.

“We only did the last session so we had quite a lot of small problems to iron out in the beginning, so to end it second quickest is good. I was up on my best lap but we didn’t put enough fuel in the bike as we didn’t plan to do a long run and I ended up running out of fuel on my quickest lap - so that was a bit gutting.

“I may have been quickest but the aim was the top five so to come away second I feel I have over achieved a bit. We got as many laps in as we could and we feel we got 60 percent out of the bike, so I am not resting on any laurels and I am going to keep working hard and do the best I can. But next weekend is where it counts.”
