Donington BSB: Vickers wins Superstock 600 despite penalty

Even a time penalty wasn’t enough to stop Ryan Vickers from winning the final race of Easter Sunday as he charged to victory in yesterday's Pirelli National Superstock 600 scrap.

The 19-year-old beat out Team #109’s Kevin Keyes by 0.191 on the official timesheets, dicing with the Irishman at the front of the field all race long.

Mototechniks Yamaha’s Vickers sped ahead of pole man Aaron Clifford off the start, pulling out a healthy lead on the first lap as Keyes and Joe Sheldon-Shaw tucked in behind.

But Keyes reeled Vickers in on lap four and snatched the lead away from the Norfolk teenager only for Vickers to pounce a few laps later and hit the front once again.

It looked to be a coin toss to decide the winner with nothing between the two, but Vickers made a pass on the final lap and held on to take the first win of the year.

And despite being served a 0.6s time penalty by race officials for cutting the Foggy Esses, the youngster snatched victory by 0.191s ahead of maiden podium men Keyes and Via Moto Racing’s Sheldon-Shaw.
