Donington BSB: Weaving closes in on Stock 600 crown

Jordan Weaving continued his rich vein of form as he powered in a fourth victory in five races to edge nearer to the Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship.

The NMT No Limits Kawasaki rider took the lead on the fourth lap and pulled clear, but Carl Phillips was full of fight, keeping his hopes of taking the silverware alive, as he finished second.

There are 21 points between them as they head for the final round shoot-out on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit next month.

In this penultimate round, Lewis Rollo made the early running ahead of Weaving, Brad Jones and Phillips and they were well clear of the three rider opening lap tangle which saw Tom Ward, Harry Truelove and George Stanley go down at Redgate, the incident bringing out the Safety Car.

Rollo had the edge on the fourth lap but not for long before he tipped out at the Melbourne Hairpin with Weaving assuming the lead just ahead of his title rival Philips, Jones, Ben Luxton and the Wigley brothers Kurt and Matthew.

Jones attacked Phillips and briefly took over in second place on the seventh lap but the Sandown Kawaski rider hit back, though he was well adrift of the race leading Weaving who had opened up a gap of around six seconds.

Weaving was well in control, dictating terms at the front, and leaving Phillips to play catch-up with Jones holding off Luxton while Kurt Wigley fell at Melbourne Hairpin allowing Scott Deroue to take over in sixth places ahead of Keenan Armstrong.

But then Jones was in trouble on the final lap, losing five places, as Weaving powered in his fourth victory in five races, crossing the line 1.663secs ahead of Phillips with Luxton third from Deroue, Armstrong, Neave, Matthew Wigley and Jones.
