Donington WorldSBK: Sofuoglu nabs Supersport pole

Puccetti Kawasaki’s Kenan Sofuoglu took pole for tomorrow’s WorldSSP race at the Donington WorldSBK round by less than a tenth of a second from championship leader Lucas Mahias with Frenchman Jules Cluzel completing the front row.

Sofuoglu’s opening flying lap of 1’30.904 was enough to take top spot but the Turk got involved in some handbags with Kyle Smith who he believed had held him up from Schwantz up to McLeans but it mattered not as Yamaha’s Mahias just didn’t have enough to depose the multiple champion.

Britain’s Luke Stapleford came through Superpole one and found enough pace to head the second row just in front of temporary team-mate Jack Kennedy with MV Agusta’s PJ Jacobsen completing the second row. Wildcard Joe Francis put his Yamaha in seventh with Smnith and Gino Rea next along. Sheridan Morias rounded out the top ten.

It wasn’t a good day for Kyle Ryde who didn’t make it out of Superpole one on his Puccetti Kawasaki and will start from 14th while David Allingham finished in 19th place. Nikki Tuuli crashed and slumped to 24th.
