Donington WSBK: Qualifying tyre problematic for Davies

Aruba.it Ducati’s Chaz Davies was not overly impressed with his lap times during the World Superbike Superpole session at Donington Park. The Welshman struggled with the qualifying tyre and found that turning on track was an issue, and preferred the race tyre this afternoon.

The Panigale rider shares the second row with fellow countryman Red Devils Aprilia’s Leon Haslam, and Voltcom Suzuki’s Alex Lowes, but sixth fastest today was not part of the Powys-based rider’s plan. But Davies is not too down hearted about where he placed, and is hoping his team can make more changes tonight.

The Leicestershire circuit is a bit of a “bogey” track for Davies and he has yet to get on to the podium, but he hopes that he will be able to clinch his maiden rostrum win tomorrow.

“It was honestly not a great session and I was hoping for a little bit better, I was quite happy with the lap time but then when I saw myself in sixth I was not too happy with that,” said Davies, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

“I found on the race tyre I was quite fast and I was in third, but when I put on the qualifying tyre I didn’t manage to get the best out of it and it didn’t help my bike with turning. But we are optimistic tomorrow and we have a few changes to throw at it so we will see what happens.

“It’s the second year for me on the Panigale, we can work off some of last year's setting's which is good and we have made some changes which have worked too, we have had podiums in every race that we have finished - but when its been off its really been off.

“I do enjoy Donington but unfortunately it seems that I have to work really hard to be on the pace and this is a bit of a bogey track for me as I have never been on the podium here but lets see if I can change that tomorrow.”
