Donington WSBK: Sofuoglu under Supersport lap record

Puccetti Racing’s Kenan Sofuoglu was under lap record pace to top the second World Supersport free practice timesheets at Donington Park. The multiple champion went three tenth faster than the quickest time set at the Leicestershire circuit, which is still held by former Supersport champ, Sam Lowes.

The Turkish rider’s 1’30.623 was enough to out-pace title rival MV Agusta’s Jules Cluzel, with the French rider ending the afternoon with a 1’30.735. Profile Racing’s Luke Stapleford took the quickest Brit accolade and got the better of fellow countryman and wild card racer Kyle Ryde just was the chequered flag appeared on the side of the track.

Stapleford’s best time, of a 1’30.898 was 0.1 seconds faster than Ryde with, diminutive American rider PJ Jacobsen completing the top five. Motorpoint British Supersport title fighter Andy Reid was able to improve massively from his FP1 time. The Northern-Irishman who is substituting for Ratthapark Wilairot in the Core Motorsport team propelled his Honda to sixth fastest after a respectable 1’31.544

Fellow wild card rider, Profile Racing’s Sam Hornsey crashed at McLeans after a low-side, but managed to get back on his Triumph to round up the top ten, just behind CIA Insurance’s Gino Rea. Pata Honda’s Kyle Smith just missed out on a top ten time, and had to settle for eleventh. CIA Insurance Honda’s Kieran Clarke finished the afternoon 25th fastest overall.
