MV Agusta Reparto Corse’s Leon Camier has left the Donington Park track a very happy rider this evening, after he racked up some solid points during both World Superbike races over the weekend.
The former MCE British Superbike champion ended race one in fourth and race two in fifth, after out-pacing ex MotoGP star, Nicky Hayden. Camier upped his game in the last half of the race and was able to gain some good speeds towards the end, particularly on the last lap in race two.
But for the racer there is still work that needs to be done on his machine, as he would like to see an improvement to his pace at the start of the races. But two top five finishes has made Camier really pleased and the English track suits his bike, but he is under no illusions that other circuits in the calendar may prove to be a bit more tricky.
“We have always had a good pace at the end of the race and there are a few things that we need to work on at the beginning,” said Camier, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the track.
“The good thing with riding was that I could see the areas that we need to improve and there are quite a few area's that we can make a step up, but it is not something that can happen tomorrow and it needs a bit of time and it will take time to come. It’s really good we had two top five finishes and it is as much as we could have ever asked and more than what we could have asked, and I am really happy.
“We knew that this track would be one of the better ones for us for sure and with the races to come it will be more difficult but at the same time places like Qatar will be horrific for us. But maybe Jerez and some other tracks could be alright. We have to make sure that for those races we get the settings perfect and we need a bit of luck, and the weekends need to go smooth and we keep on improving.”
