Donington WSBK: Solid points haul for Lowes

Voltcom Suzuki’s Alex Lowes is beginning to feel more confident onboard his GSX-R1000 and clinched his best results for a while at his home World Superbike round at Donington Park. He held on to take two sixth place finishes, and with a points total of 71 it places him eighth on the overall championship standings.

The Englishman has made progress with the electronics package on his machine, and it showed with the youngster putting down some quick lap times all weekend and even qualified on the second row after setting a time that was well inside the 1’27 barrier.

He is still not feeling one hundred percent confident with the bike, but with improvements being made constantly by his team he feels that he is turning a corner and wants to build on his solid success going into the next round of Portimao.

“From where we have been it has been really good and we had new electronics a few races ago and we had been struggling a bit. To get two top six results is good,” said Lowes, speaking to bikesportnews.com from the track.

“I tried my best I could and to come to where we have been has been fantastic. We just need to keep our heads down and keep working hard. Today was it was great but I need to improve again for the next round.

“I’m getting more confident on the bike, and if I keep making steps I won’t be too far away from the podium. The fans are great and I had a new suit for today  and I am lucky to have all the support here. Now everything seems to be fundamentally working properly - now I need to improve to compete with the rest of the factory boys.”
