Donington WSBK: 'Top eight would be like a win' - Camier

MV Agusta’s Leon Camier has certainly made an impact during the World Superbike race weekend at his home round of Donington Park. He topped the opening free practice timesheets and was up the sharp end during the final timed session and qualifying. But the Englishman is aiming for a top eight finish, which would be like “a win” for the tall racer.

Camier has placed his Reparto Corse backed machine on the third row of the grid for tomorrow’s two races, after safely making his way through to Superpole two, with three strong free practice outings. During Superpole two Camier did struggle somewhat with the qualifying tyre and told bikesportnews.com that lack of grip was an issue.

But he had no complaints from the race tyre and his team will be working hard tonight to make some minor changes to the chassis and electronics so that the former MCE British Superbike champion can find that added pace, and grip for the double-header at his home round.

“This track does suit the bike a bit more and you don’t need tons of power. We have a good front feeling with the bike as the grip is not so good, but we have a good front feeling and it seems to working not too bad,” said Camier, speaking to bikesportnews.com from the circuit.

“We made some changes with the chassis and some electronic changes and we have a bit more front support. We have still got to find something which will be good for the whole race and if the tyres drop off we need the electronics perfect so they can adapt to that as well.

“We will go over the data again, but the biggest thing we need to do is compare the two fastest laps I did in qualifying. With the qualifying tyre I went three tenths faster but I preferred the race tyre as the qualifier felt worst and I felt that I had more grip on the race tyre.

“So we will be combining the two ideas from qualifying to practice and I want to find that balance. For sure we are not anywhere near the podium and if I could be top eight then that would be like a win for me, and that would be great.”
