Double win is the aim for BSB series leader Byrne at Oulton

MCE British Superbike series leader Shane Byrne aims to come away from this weekend’s Oulton Park round with a double win after a disappointing weekend at the Silverstone Showdown decider.

Byrne came away from the Northamptonshire circuit with just one podium credit from a total of 15 available and crashed twice at Farm corner. Rival Leon Haslam had an even worse weekend, not finishing two races and not starting another one but the big winners were Josh Brookes and Jake Dixon, who leapt to third and fourth in the standings.

“Clearly Silverstone last weekend never went to plan for my side of the garage, there was the possibility of 15 more Podium Points and we ended up with just one,” said Byrne.

“That said there were plenty of positives for me too which I certainly plan on taking into the Showdown starting this coming weekend. We had a win and a second at Oulton Park earlier this year so the aim is obvious, to go one better and do the double whilst keeping a watchful eye on our closest rivals.

“It has been a difficult year for everybody. You only have to look at how long it took for all of us to get into the Showdown. I have had a round off and everyone has missed races and that hurts in the points. I have been into the Showdown both ways; up and down on points before, and one year in particular we had the biggest advantage and I crashed and then it had gone. I am conscious of that fact.”
