Ducati MotoGP boss confirms GP15 ready for Sepang II

Ducati MotoGP Gigi Dall’Igna has confirmed that the new GP15 will not be ready for the first Sepang test at the beginning of February and riders Andreas Dovizioso and Iannone will have to make do with an interim GP14.3.

He has said, however, the bike will be available for the works team to ride at the second set of Malaysia tests later in February.

“Every time we spoke about the GP15 we spoke about the Sepang tests and February but the schedule was for Sepang 2. We tried very hard to anticipate a little bit the project but in the end we can’t make it and we use for the first Sepang test a GP14.3,” said Dall’Igna.

“That is an evolution of the bike that we used in the last part of last season. I think this is important because we have to evaluate some different set-up and after that we have to choose the set-up of the GP15.”

He confirmed the GP15 will be a totally new bike and will only share engine configuration will the existing models.

“The bike will be completely different to the GP14, the GP14.2 and the GP14.3, but mainly, we stay with the Desmodromic (valves), the 90 degree 4-cylinder (engine). The basic concepts remain the same but in the end it will be a completely different bike. The engine will be a lot smaller and this could help us with different set-ups.”
