Movistar Yamaha's Maverick Vinales is already prioritising electronics development for 2018 MotoGP winter testing which kicks off after the Valencia season finale.

The young Spaniard has struggled with electronics and corner entry this year and has had to radically alter his late-brake-sling-it-in style for a more smooth, Lorenzo-esque attitude which hasn't come easy.

"This year has been really bad, for me, for the results and also for my head. But if next year's it's perfect, for me it's OK," said Vinales.

"I have tried to change many things, some things I am not allowed, so it has been so hard to find the setup where I was feeling good from one track to another track.

"One of the problems for me is the entry to the corner. Last year, I could ride it a little more aggressive which permit me to go a little bit more my way, my style. This year, I have to be so smooth so I am not really adapt to this style to be smooth on the braking.

"I'm another type of rider, I like to brake late and deep into the corner, so it was difficult to be competitive. I struggle in both areas, electronics and corner entry. The first objective in the winter season is to improve the electronics.

At the recent Aragon test - with Yamaha WorldSBK electronics guru Michele Gadda in situ - the team were supposed to have the 2019, heavier-cranked engine to try but it failed to appear. Still, Vinales was happy with other work carried out.

"Valentino and I have the level to win the races, so Yamaha have to move on that. We are happy we have already made a big step. In Aragon, we tried something for next year, so we are happy about that, so let's see."
