'Expectation is to fight for the championship' - Lowes

SIS KTM Moto2 star Sam Lowes expects to be fighting for the world championship in his first year back to the middleweight class and is already confident after a couple of days' testing at Jerez.

The former World Supersport Champion, who was forced to step back from MotoGP at the end of his rookie year by Aprilia, is stepping into Tom Luthi's shoes but has a works-backed KTM under him which he already says is good over race distance.

"It's the first test for us as we missed Valencia. It's a proper test for us as we are trying many things on the bike. I feel quite good, we are in a good position in terms of pace, we are missing a little in terms of one-lap speed .

"We have some more things to try today but it's good to ride after a long winter. It's coming back to Moto2 than it is going the other way because I have been here before and I know how things work. I'm coming back to a different bike with the KTM and I'm still working on things as it takes that a little bit of extra time.

"I feel good, we are working in a good way. The expectation is to fight for the world championship."
