First chance for Zarco to wrap up 2015 Moto2 title

Runaway Moto2 championship leader Johann Zarco has his first chance to wrap up the 2015 title at this weekend’s Aragon MotoGP round.

Zarco is 93 points clear at the top of the overall standings in Moto2 and with five races of the season remaining, the Ajo Motorsport rider only has to place seven points ahead of nearest rival Tito Rabat and fewer than 10 points behind Alex Rins to clinch the title. Despite these circumstances, the Frenchman is targeting a continuation of his run of 12 consecutive podiums -the last three of which have been victories.

"I go to Aragon without thinking about the possibility of the title, because although this is the goal for the year, I have a big advantage and it is important to win it, not where I do it. If I see that I have a chance and I'm strong, I'll go for the win. I will try to be calm if I'm not the strongest, but I am convinced that the team will prepare the best bike possible for me,” said Zarco.

It's a track where I managed to get on the podium last year, and I've had other good races there, so I have good memories of Aragon. It is a circuit I like; fairly new, fast, with very interesting corners and where it can be quite windy. I will try to be calm, fight for the victory if possible and, if not, pick up points for the championship."

How Johann Zarco can win the Moto2 title this weekend:

1st Zarco - Rabat finishes 3rd or lower
2nd Zarco - Rabat finishes 4th or lower
3rd Zarco - Rabat finishes 7th or lower
4th Zarco - Rabat finishes 10th or lower and Rins no higher than 2nd
5th Zarco - Rabat finishes 12th or lower and Rins no higher than 2nd
6th Zarco - Rabat finishes 13th or lower and Rins no higher than 2nd
7th Zarco - Rabat finishes 14th or lower and Rins no higher than 3rd
8th Zarco - Rabat finishes 15th or lower and Rins no higher than 3rd
9th Zarco - Rabat does not complete the race and Rins finishes no higher than 3rd
