Halsall joins British Supersport grid with Joe Francis

Former MCE British Superbike team boss Martin Halsall has joined the Dickies British Supersport grid for 2017 and will have Joe Francis riding a Yamaha R6 for the season.

Halsall walked away from the blue riband class at the end of last year with an eye on road racing but has opted to come back to the middleweight series with Francis - who had been left without a ride - to form the Movuno.com Halsall Racing squad.

“I spoke to Martin to see if he’d be interested in running the Yamaha in Supersport, and he got back the next day and said it was happening. It all came about every quickly,” said Francis.

“It’s fantastic to finally have something sorted; especially with Martin because he runs a slick, professional team and as everyone knows, his bikes are perfectly prepared and want for nothing.

“We’re doing the Donington test on Wednesday and that will be my only chance to ride the bike before the season starts, so we have a lot to do.

“I want to try and get as many high points finishes in the first races as possible and then work towards getting the wins in by about the third round. There’s no reason we can’t win this year and I’m extremely grateful to Martin for giving me this opportunity.”
