Haslam focusing on tyre life at Cartagena test

JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam set the fourth quickest time on day of testing at the Cartagena Pro Test and will today focus on getting more life out of rear tyres by making the ZX-10RR’s power delivery a little less aggressive.

Haslam will spend the next couple of days working on different fuel maps in order to calm down the new Kawasaki and make use its grip in a different way and be able to lap almost as fast at the end of a race as at the beginning - something rival Shane Byrne’s Ducati managed better last season.

“We matched our best time from last year one day one and also put in two race runs with two different swingarms which was positive and we made a step there. We did go back to a hard tyre at the end of the day and was able to lap in 1’33s on it which was the most important,” Haslam told BSN at the track.

“Consistency for me is the most important. Our plan over the winter is to get more consistency and better tyre life which is where we fell down last year compared to the Ducati We have made some progress with the swingarm and some other components. We haven’t yet got the fuelling and maps quite right.

“That will be the priority over the next few days. At the moment, it is too aggressive but when we get on top of that we will be pretty much there.”
