Howarth back to British Superbike action with MotoDex BMW

Professional northerner and TV ‘personality’ Michael Howarth will make his return to the MCE British Superbike series at Oulton Park this weekend after a successful test with the MotoDex BMW team at Cadwell.

MotoDex owner Tony Dexter, who has brought himself and the team out of retirement to have another shot at the world’s leading domestic championship.

They will join the grid this coming weekend for Round Two of the championship at Oulton Park, which is also Howarth’s local track. The former rugby league player hails from Todmorden in Yorkshire and last raced in the series back in 2013. Since then he has been working hard to find the budget needed to run a full season at the top level.

The Sheffield-based MotoDex Performance First BMW team last appeared in BSB in 2015 and had all but ruled out any chance of a return. But less than two weeks ago Dexter and Howarth resumed talks which had begun last season and thrashed out a deal.

“I’m absolutely over the moon to finally be able to say I’m back! I haven’t ridden since 2013 and since then I’ve been fighting tooth and nail to get a deal where I can give it my all. I’ve always said I wouldn’t do a half-baked job of it, I was determined if I came back it would be for the full season and now I’m in a position to do just that,” said Howarth.

“I am fitter than I have ever been in my whole career. I have lost more than three stone, I’m in the gym every day and I am ready to come back and fight hard. I am ready to come back and give it everything I have to get the best results I can.

“I’m excited to be back out there at Oulton Park. It’s my home track and that’s always something special, and I will be giving it my all every time I go out onto the track. Thanks to Tony and MotoDex I’m able to get my career back on track and I want to also thank every single person who has made that possible.

“I have to thank Traction Chargers for sticking with me and I have so many other supporters that I can’t thank every one of them but their loyalty is just incredible and without them I wouldn’t be here. Now it’s time to thank them by getting the best results I can.”
