Hyundai to sponsor British Sidecar series until 2017

Britain’s F1 Sidecar series has signed Hyundai Heavy Industries, in association with UK arm Molson, as title sponsor for the next three seasons.

Eastern Airways, for the past five seasons the headline sponsor of what was initially a fledgling championship, will continue to be involved. Richard Lake, CEO of Eastern Airways, has always had a keen interest in maintaining the correct image from a television and media standpoint, as well as assisting aspiring teams to graduate from the Bemsee club series. It is anticipated that his support will continue in that direction.

“We are delighted to welcome Hyundai and Molson in to F1 Sidecar paddock. This is something we have been working towards for many years now, and has come about simply because the profile of the championship has grown to the point where it can carry a global name,” said series boss Roger Body.

“Richard Lake and Eastern Airways have been totally instrumental in helping us along the way to where we are today, and I am eternally grateful to him for his support. I am thrilled that he has seen fit to continue his association with F1 Sidecars.

“The Hyundai/Molson connection will enable us to take the series to even greater heights in terms of exposure and awareness. There are many exciting initiatives planned for the new season, and those will be revealed in due course.”
