'If Yamaha makes more effort, we can recover' – Rossi

Nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi has again called on Yamaha to get its shit together as he believes that with a competitive bike, he can again start to win MotoGP races.

The Doctor, who is in probably the most difficult part of his career, lies second in the championship chase but doesn't think he will be able to stay there because Honda and Ducati are some distance ahead in the way they understand the control Marelli ECU.

"A difficult season because I think Yamaha at this moment is not competitive as Honda and Ducati. We started to have problem when we went from the Yamaha ECU down to the Marelli. It's the same issue for everybody. They make the rule for lower the level of electronics compared to 2015, for example," said Rossi.

"It was a big step in 2016 but in the middle of 2017, Honda and Ducati are able to come back at the same level and Yamaha was unable to do this step.

"Is a long way to the end of the season and is frustrating if we are unable to improve. For me, is important to understand how much Yamaha want to win because if they make more effort, we can recover the situation.

"Now I am second, which is a good position, but I think it will be hard to keep this position until the end. The bigger problem is I am not fast enough at this moment to put Marquez under pressure.

"I don't win because we are not on the top with the bike. I ride very well and I think with a more competitive I can fight for the victory. This year I feel very good, I am in great shape, we train very hard. I arrive at the end of the race with enough energy to make five more laps. It's a shame we are not on top on the technical points because I feel very strong."
