Injury rules Hickman out of the North West 200

Briggs Equipment BMW’s Peter Hickman will not compete in the North West 200 after breaking his vertebrae in two places in his neck, after a crash during the MCE British Superbike second free practice session on Saturday.

bikesportnews.com revealed yesterday that the Louth rider will not take part in the rest of the BSB race weekend at Oulton Park, after an initial scan revealed that he  has broken two ribs. But after further assessment Hickman has been advised by medial staff to rest up after the latest scan showed he has also broken his C4 vertebrae.

His team are now aiming for the Isle of Man TT for Hickman to make his return to racing, but before that there is an official Snetterton BSB test which is a week before the historic road racing event, and team boss Lee Hardy is hopeful that his rider will be fit to take part in the TT.

“Peter has broken his C4 vertebrae in two places after a scan yesterday. He will miss the rest of the Oulton Park race weekend but he will also miss the North West 200 too,” said Hardy, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

“He has seen a consultant and he has been told to rest up. We will now aim for the Isle of Man TT to make a comeback. We are not too sure about the BSB Snetterton test as that is the week before the TT, but we will have to wait and see.”
