Jerez WorldSBK test: Camier matches Ducati, Yamaha

Leon Camier has matched the laptimes set by Ducati and Yamaha on day two of WorldSBK testing at Jerez and is nearly two seconds faster than Davide Giugliano managed on the same Red Bull Honda during the race weekend in October.

Camier took the Fireblade SP2 to a 1’39.797 - compared to Giugliano’s 1’41.326 in Superpole one - and only trailed Marco Melandri - fastest today - by a tenth of a second. Just for the shits of it, he was only 2.1s slower than Andrea Dovizioso on the Ducati that was second in MotoGP this year…

“There are a lot of positives, more than I was expecting, so that is really good. There are some things, for sure, that we need to work on - a couple of fundamental things that I don’t fully understand at the minute. We made some big steps, the chassis was working not so bad and I had a good feeling with it,” said Camier, speaking at the track.

“The electronics we need to work on, there are some slightly different characteristics which we need to improve. I was comfortable on the bike straight away, there are a few things to change and move but first impressions were good.”
