Jerez WSBK test: Weight and power the keys for Camier

Britain’s Leon Camier has stressed that his factory MV Agusta team need to work on reducing the weight and increasing the power of his World Superbike before any real progress can be made in terms of laptimes.

The former British Superbike Champion spent two days testing at Jerez and ended with a 1’42.182 best but says the two fundamentals, plus a raft of smaller changes, are the ways to make the MV somewhere near competitive this season.

Camier’s bike for Phillip Island will be as it goes in the crate leaving Jerez, so two more days’ test work at Phillip Island will be crucial to make any kind of impact on the top ten.

“We did quite a lot of work with the clutch and electronics, in particular the anti-wheelie and the torque map coming out of corners and made a little progress there. We found a direction in those areas and worked on some other areas too,” said Camier, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the circuit.

“Hopefully, it the base of the bike is a little better, we can go and find some power and the weight is a big thing. We are still a lot of kilos over the minimum, which is something we need to look at. We have got a lot of little things, especially on the chassis, which stiffen it but then all those add weight. The engine is quite big so weighs more. Weight and power are the big things we need to look at.

“I followed Chaz around earlier and their bike is just more nimble, it turns better, a little more power, so he is pulling a few tenths everywhere - just tiny little bits that add up.”
