Jones bags second in Alcarras Moriwaki Cup opener

Young Welsh prospect Dan Jones got his Moriwaki Cup season off to a flying start last weekend at Alcarras, converting a second place grid slot to a runner-up finish behind Kevin Orgis.

This is Jones’ second year in the championship and his main aim is to get consistent top five results all season and he was over the moon to start so strongly.

"Last year was a learning year for us at the European 250 Junior Cup so to step on the podium at the first meeting of 2015 was a dream come true,” said the youngster.

“Our game plan was to finish top five in every race but to come away with second was a great feeling. We would love a podium finish next month at the first BSB round at Donnington too.

Jones was quickest in free practice and in Q1 but missed out on pole position in Q2 by 0.1 second by eventual winner, German Kevin Orgis.

"I had a great start and led for two laps until Kevin passed me on the long straight. We had broken away from the pack and switched positions throughout the race but although taking the lead in the last lap I was held up by some back markers meaning Kevin got the eventual race win."

Jones would like to thank Elite Surfacing Limited, Waudby Haulage and all his sponsors for the support they give him.
