Jordan wins opening Armoy Supersport race

Paul Jordan has won the opening Supersport 600 race at the Armoy Road Races today. The Magherafelt man snatched victory on the line from Adam McLean who had led the way from the start.

The race was restarted after a red flag incident and run over a shortened distance of four laps and it was McLean who set the pace off the line on his McAdoo Kawasaki closely followed by Jordan on his own Paul Jordan Racing Yamaha R6 and Davey Todd, Cookstown Burrows Engineering Honda.

On the last lap less than a second separated the leading trio, then on the final drag to the line Jordan managed to edge his way alongside and past McLean taking the win by 0.4 of a second.

Michael Sweeney, who set the fastest lap of the race, also stole a place in the closing stages of the race managing to get past Todd to claim the final place on the podium. Jordan’s win put an end to Derek McGee's winning streak.

McGee did start in pole position but retired due to a mechanical problem on the warm up lap of the first start, the Mullingar man must however be favourite for today's races after setting the quickest qualifying times in the Superbike, Supersport, Supertwin and Moto3 classes.

The only other race to be run yesterday was the Senior Support race. This was won by Stephen McKeown, this race was cut short after a red flag incident with the result being declared after four laps, Tommy Henry was second and Mike Swanson third.

Roads close today [Saturday] at 10am with racing starting soon after.
