Knockhill BSB: Brookes 'positive' after consistent lap times

Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes will start the first MCE British Superbike race at Knockhill from the front row, after lapping a time in the qualifying session which was a personal best for the rider, and under lap record pace.

The Bringelly native put down a 48.219 to place his R1 on the third spot on the grid, but he missed out on P1 by one tenth. He left it till his final rotation at the Scottish circuit to complete a hot lap, which was only 0.01 off the best time of PBM Kawasaki’s Stuart Easton.

Brookes is taking a lot of positives from the weekend so far, and he is happy with the consistency of his pace, the tyres and fuel capacity of his Milwaukee backed Yamaha. His aim is to get his first win of the year - which has eluded him so far.

“The track lends itself to close lap times, but I am pleased with the times that I did. I stretched it out lap after lap, and the last lap was my best in qualifying and my consistency is good, and the plan we had at the start of the weekend is working out well,” said Brookes, at the track.

“We have a good, consistent pace which works good on the tyre and we are using less fuel, so there are a lot of positives out of it. So I am actually quite pleased to do that lap time, but I am a bit bummed not to get pole - but I need to look at the positives are there are a lot with the bike at the moment.

“I am quite pleased to be on the front row, and I did my PB on the circuit and my best lap time of the weekend. Qualifying is important, but we need to have a good race.”
