Knockhill BSB: Byrne fastest in damp final session

PBM Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne remained top of the MCE British Superbike combined free practice timesheets, and even though he wasn’t able to better his 48.186 time from FP2, he was still the quickest rider in the final timed session.

The reigning champ but down a 49.278 in drying, but damp conditions. The day was delayed due to surface damage at the Scottish track caused by torrential rain showers overnight, but the issue was rectified only to be delayed further by fog making its way onto the circuit. But it soon lifted and FP3 was able to get underway.

It was Be Wiser Kawasaki’s Danny Buchan who was up the sharp and in the final practice session, after putting down a 49.301, only for Byrne to pip him to the post. JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s James Ellison rounded up the top three this afternoon.

The damp conditions meant that not many riders were able to better their FP2 time’s with Byrne, his team-mate Stuart Easton, Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes, Tyco BMW’s Michael Laverty and Bennetts Suzuki’s Christian Iddon completed the overall top five fastest times on the combined timing-screens.

It was declared a wet session, but the track was drying under the blue skies, but the riders all started out on full wets, only to change towards the end of the 30 minute outing.

Honda Racing’s Jenny Tinmouth set a time quick enough for her to get inside the top 30 quickest times for the first time this season, and she will take part in qualifying later this afternoon.
