Knockhill BSB: Cracked vertebrae rule out Haslam

JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam has been declared unfit to take part in the MCE British Superbike double header at Knockhill after being knocked out and cracking some vertebrae in a massive free practice crash this morning.

The Smalley rider went over the handlebars of his ZX-10RR on the exit of the chicane and was taken by ambulance to the medical centre. Subsequently he was transferred to hospital for further checks.

As Haslam was knocked out for a few minutes he can now not ride for seven days, due to the concussion protocol, meaning he will not be able to take part in the races on Sunday.

Currently the Kawasaki man is leading the BSB series, and has a three point advantage at the top of the standings from team-mate Luke Mossey,. Haslam remains in hospital, as further assessments have to be made on the cracked vertebrae.

“Unfortunately Leon went down in free practice one and has a couple of cracked vertebrae. He got knocked out for couple of minutes so that rules him out here. Other than that he’s OK, just waiting in hospital to make sure cracked vertebrae are stable,” said team manager Jack Valentine.
