Knockhill BSB: Surgery rules Iddon out of action

Tyco BMW’s Christian Iddon has been declared unfit to take part in today’s MCE British Superbike double-header at Knockhill.

The Stockport lad suffered a big crash during the opening free practice session on Friday and was sent to hospital for further assessment. He was hoping to be back for FP3 and qualifying, but he required an operation on a flesh wound on his left arm.

Yesterday he had an operation under general anaesthetic which requires a 48 hours recovery period. On social media Iddon said that he tried everything but unfortunately won’t be on the starting grid for the two main events in Fife. He is currently third in the overall BSB championship standings.

“Despite trying everything I’ve been declared unfit to ride. I understand why and have to respect that, sorry guys,” said Iddon.

The S1000RR racer was not the only rider to sustain injuries in the first free practice outing. JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam suffered a concussion and cracked some vertebrae after a massive high side and Be Wiser Ducati’s Glenn Irwin dislocated his elbow and shoulder after his fall.

“Christian underwent a small procedure yesterday to clean up the wound and although he was determined to compete in today’s Superbike races, due to nature of the injury he required a general anaesthetic which dictates a 48hr race ban,” said team manager Philip Neill.
