Knockhill BSB: Elliott extends series lead after Stock 1000 win

Morello Racing’s Josh Elliott took the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 race win at Knockhill, and had a six second advantage over second place finisher, local rider Michael Robertson and Morello team-mate, John Ingram.

Initially it was the wee wizard of Carrickfergus, Tyco BMW’s Alastair Seeley who got the hole-shot, ahead of title rival Elliott, but two rotations later Seeley clipped the curb at Scotsman and crashed out of contention for the victory.

With the Northern Irishman out of proceedings, it paved the way for Elliott and Quigley to power on ahead, with local rider Robertson in tow.

But as Quigley was pushing and holding on to a provisional podium finish he crashed, uninjured at the Chicane on lap 18 of 24, pushing Robertson and Ingram up the field. But with Seeley, Kennaugh and Quigley out of the points it now means that Elliott extends his lead in the championship by 37 points.

MSS Colchester Kawasaki’s Jesse Traylor won the battle for fourth from Alex Olsen, Tom Tunstall and Barry Teasdale, with Sam West the last of the points finishers.

There was an incident on the very first lap, where both Downshift Motorsport James East and G&S Racing’s Tom Fisher fell at Scotsman, but both were able to walk away from the crash.

South African rider, Hudson Kennaugh had to start from the back of the grid after missing the qualifying session, due to a technical problem. He made his way into the points, but on lap thirteen he crashed at Taylor’s, and was taken to the medical centre for a check up.

Kennaugh was not the only racer to crash on the Scottish track, DU Racing’s Dominic Usher crashed at Clark’s, and Jones-Dorling Racing’s Ashley Beech retired to the pits with a bike problem, while fighting for third.
