Knockhill BSB: Fastest ever lap lands Stapleford pole

Profile Triumph’s Luke Stapleford bagged the Motorpoint British Supersport pole position after setting the fastest ever middleweight lap around the Scottish circuit, with a 49.521.

The championship leader held provisional pole for the majority of the session but in the closing stages he was put under pressure and then bettered by talented teens Jake Dixon and Kyle Ryde.

First Ryde jumped to the top of the timesheets before Dixon quickly followed suit.

However, Stapleford was hungry for his third pole position of the year and he was able to claim it after going beneath Graeme Gowland’s previous fastest ever Supersport lap.

The Profile Triumph rider tucked the front and crashed out at the Hairpin a lap later but still clinched pole position, 0.045 of a second clear of Smiths Triumph’s Jake Dixon.

Rounding out the front row, 0.126 behind the pacesetter, is CF Motorsport’s Kyle Ryde.

Gearlink Kawasaki’s Glenn Irwin fronts the second row of the grid ahead of Stapleford’s Profile Triumph teammate, Sam Hornsey, and Ben Wilson.

Floridian James Rispoli is three quarters of the second adrift in seventh, with Appleyard Macadam’s Danny Webb and Luke Hedger rounding out the third row of the grid.
