Knockhill BSB: Injured Haslam vows to come back stronger

JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam is recovering from being knocked out and breaking his C1 vertebrae, after a massive MCE British Superbike free practice crash yesterday, but the current championship leader has vowed to come back stronger at the next round at Snetterton.

The Smalley rider does not remember much of the incident, where he high-sided on the exit of the chicane at the Knockhill circuit, but will now spend the next few weeks recuperating and trying to get back to fitness for the next round of the series.

Haslam suffered concussion and under the return to riding protocol he can now not ride a bike for seven days, which means he will miss out on competing in the double header on Sunday.

The World Superbike wildcard rider is also feeling a tad frustrated today as Knockhill is a track he really enjoys, but now he is focused on ‘bouncing back’ at the next round on his ZX-10RR.

“I was knocked out yesterday so there were a lot of checks regarding that and there were a few issues with the top of my neck, and all been released and everything is all stable on that front,” said Haslam.

“Frustrating that I am not riding at Knockhill, but move on to the next one, we have Snetterton in a few weeks time and a bit of recovering over this week and a half and we will come back stronger there.

“I remember the grip feeling quite low in the early laps and I had the bike slightly slowing down on the straights, but I am not quite sure, the boys can’t see anything too majorly different, but it did let go in a quite a big way.

“Been given the all clear, I have a slight crack in my vertebrae - the C1, but it is all stable and good. I cant remember the crash itself, but I came around quite quick. It it is unfortunate as Knockhill is one of my favourite circuits, hopefully we can have a good weekend with the team with Luke and bounce back at Snetterton.”
