Knockhill BSB: Irwin muscles his way to Supersport victory

Gearlink Kawasaki’s Glenn Irwin claimed his second Motorpoint British Supersport win in as many races after coming out on top of a four way battle for the lead.

The Carrickfergus rider now lies joint top of the championship table, level with Luke Stapleford on 156 points.

Smiths Triumph’s Jake Dixon took the holeshot from the front row of the grid but was quickly shuffled backwards to fourth place with Irwin, Luke Stapleford and Kyle Ryde all moving past on the brakes.

Profile Triumph’s Stapleford was eager to get past Irwin into the Hairpin but the Northern Irishman was supremely strong on the brakes.

Dixon began to fight back in the latter stages getting past Ryde, who came close to taking out the pair of them in the earlier laps.

The Smiths Triumph rider set a new lap record whilst closing down the leading duo but on the penultimate lap he crashed out at the bottom of Duffus Dip.

Stapleford made a late lunge on Irwin but the Gearlink rider was simply too late on the brakes, driving up the hill to take the chequered flag and the race win.

CF Motorsport’s Ryde rounded out the podium in a lonely third place, before Profile Triumph’s Sam Hornsey and Traction Control’s James Rispoli came across the line.

Hornsey just pipped the Floridian to fourth place by just 0.035 of a second.

Gearlink Kawasaki’s Luke Hedger ended in sixth, with Danny Webb taking the chequered flag in seventh aboard the Appleyard Macadam Yamaha.

Rounding out the top ten was EVO race winner Matt Paolo, his first EVO win of the year in front of a home crowd, Joe Collier and Aussie Levi Day.
