Knockhill BSB: Laverty penalty promotes Brookes

Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes finished the second MCE British Superbike race in third at Knockhill but can now add another podium credit to his tally, after Tyco BMW’s Michael Laverty was penalised by one second after an investigation which found that he had overtaken the Bringelly rider under a yellow flag in race one.

Laverty was initially awarded the second place position in the opening race, only for his overtaking move on the Yamaha rider to be reported to race direction, and an investigation ensued. This evening the outcome from the enquiry revealed that Laverty did make a move on Brookes when yellow flags were present and was demoted to fourth, promoting Brookes to third in race one.

The Australian is now second in the overall championship standings, but is still 38 points adrift of PBM Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne going into the sixth BSB round at Brands Hatch.

“We are doing something wrong, but the Milwaukee Yamaha team are always trying hard to give me a package to help me win races. But somewhere along the line I am getting it wrong - or giving the wrong feedback, as we were not in a position to win this weekend - that was fairly clear,” said Brookes, after race two.

“All we can do is try and improve things, and I will watch the races at home and try and improve myself, and be better. It is not the wins we were looking for, but I am pleased to be on the podium.”
