Knockhill BSB: Stapleford quickest in Supersport practice

Profile Racing’s Luke Stapleford was the quickest rider in both Motorpoint British Supersport free practice sessions at Knockhill, and bettered his earlier FP1 time by two tenths of a second.

The Sinope racer set a 49.789 in the second free practice outing, only going one tenth slower than his own lap record at the Scottish track. Smiths Racing’s Jake Dixon left it till the final minutes of the session to make his way into the top five on the sheets. The Dover lad lapped a 49.809 to place his Triumph second fastest, edging Gearlink Kawasaki’s Glenn Irwin down to third.

Irwin’s team-mate, Ben Wilson was only 0.05 seconds from lapping a time inside the 49 seconds bracket, and nearly out-paced his Carrickfergus garage buddy in the process, but at the flag Irwin was 0.1s quicker.

Profile Racing’s Sam Hornsey did make it to the top of the sheets, but halfway through the session was not able to improve his pace and had to settle for a 50.249 to put him just inside the top five.

PacedayZ Trackday’s Kyle Ryde was never within the top three quickest times in FP2, and ended the day sixth fastest followed by Team Traction Control team’s, James Rispoli and Andy Reid.

Gearlink Kawasaki’s Luke Hedger and Newman Racing’s Matthew Paulo completed the top ten. Paulo also bagged the accolade of being the fastest Evo bike in the second free practice session too.

The top of the sheets kept changing throughout the 30 minute session, with Stapleford, his team-mate Hornsey and Irwin all setting times quick enough to place them P1 on the timing-screens. But in the end it was Stapleford who took the spoils.

Some riders did experience technical issues out on the Scottish circuit, including CDH Racing’s Dean Hipwell who came to a stop at Butcher’s. NFB Triumph’s Bjorn Estment took a tumble at Clark’s but was declared OK at the trackside.
