Knockhill BSB: Third place for Ellison in 'tough' qualifying

McAMS Yamaha’s James Ellison overcame a small crash during the MCE British Superbike qualifying session at Knockhill, to make it onto the front row for the opening race on Sunday.

Before the off, Ellison was on a hot lap and was already leading the timing-screens but folded the front on the R1 at the chicane. But he was able to get the McAMS backed bike to the pits.

There was no damage and the team put in a new tyre, which enabled Ellison to lap a 48.464, and was only two tenths off the best time set by poleman, JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Luke Mossey, to go P3 at the flag.

“I think everyone was on the limit then, it was a tough one. The little crash I had, I folded the front - too much brake unfortunately. Then brought the bike back and it was fine and we put a new tyre in and found another four tenths which put us P2 but I didn’t feel I had much left in the tank,” said Ellison.

“Once I did a 48.4, I went into the chicane and the seat pad came loose so I was debating to come in but I kept my head down and did the best I could, it threw my concentration a bit - it wasn’t flying off, but I gave it everything I got. Hopefully we can make it up with a podium”
