Lausitz WSBK: Mistakes cost Camier a shot at podium

Leon Camier believes a couple of mistakes put paid to his chances of a podium in today’s wet World Superbike race at the Lausitzring.

But the MV Agusta Reparto Corse rider admits he has been pleased with the pace of his machine throughout the weekend, and feels that rider error is the thing that scuppered his chances of a piece of silverware at the German track.

Camier finished the race in fourth place, a place above his fifth yesterday but feels a mistake on the penultimate lap as he was chasing down Xavi Fores’ Barni Racing Ducati could have been the difference between third and fourth today.

“I’m happy and annoyed at the same time because it was maybe possible to get a podium,” he said. “It was so easy to make a mistake and I made a lot of mistakes, just on corner entry, the rear coming round and on the second to last lap I ran off the track which didn’t help things at all.

“I was reeling in Fores just a little bit and the last lap he didn’t put a very good lap together so I’d like to think I could’ve had an opportunity.

“But, at the same time, it’s first weekend I’ve had a bike that can genuinely fight for the podium so I’m a little bit frustrated I didn’t quite achieve that but all in all it was quite good.

“The guys made a really good step with the electronics for the race in the wet so I’m happy and looking forward to the last few races of the season.”
