Lausitz WSBK: Suspected fractured shoulder for Giugliano

Davide Giugliano has a suspected fracture in his right shoulder blade following a crash in today’s rain-hit World Superbike race at the Lausitzring.

The aruba.it Racing Ducati rider will have a further examination when he returns home to Italy tomorrow to see the extent of the injury, sustained in a big off on the fourth lap.

The Italian had got a good start when the delayed race finally got underway 45 minutes late after heavy rain hit as the bikes were lining up on the grid. With patches of standing water in various parts of the track, race chiefs had no option but to postpone the action until it was safe.

Giugliano had clawed his way up to second from a third row start and had posted the provisonal best lap when he crashed hard at Turn 9. He limped off holding his right arm and was taken to the medical centre for further checks, where the suspected fracture was diagnosed.

"I didn’t expect the crash, because I quickly realised Rea and I could make a difference in the wet and I wasn’t on the limit,” he said. “The plan was to wait until the last few laps to attack. I was cautious with the throttle, but wet races are always a lottery and all of a sudden the rear lost grip.

“It’s a shame because I really wanted to give the team another good result after Chaz’s win yesterday. The good thing is that we’ve made a big step forward in dry conditions as well today, showing a promising pace during warm-up. We’ll bounce back in Magny Cours, a track that I like much better.”
