Laverty 'sizing up' both MotoGP and WSBK paddocks for 2017

Aspar’s Eugene Laverty is ‘interested’ in continuing in MotoGP next year, especially if he is given a chance to ride the Desmosedici GP16 bike, but has also admitted that he has been ‘sizing up’ options in the World Superbike championship too.

The Monaco-based resident’s Aspar contract runs out at the end of the season, but said he would not be interested if he had to ride the GP15 again, and desires a competitive package for 2017.

Laverty is no stranger to the World Superbike paddock as he competed there for five seasons, and admitted that there are some factory options that would be a ‘great’ opportunity as well.

“I am sizing up both paddocks honestly. My contract is coming to an end this year and I am interested to continue here with a better bike, if there is a GP16 available then I am definitely interested,” said Laverty, at thee Assen track this afternoon.

“But to ride a GP15 again I wouldn’t be interested although it is going to be better than the current bike, again it will be a two year old bike so what I want is a GP16 to have a good shot at it.

“But like I said I am sizing up Superbikes as well because there is some factory options there on race winning machinery and that would be a great opportunity as well.”

Once again the Aspar rider secured some solid points for his team after finishing a wet race in seventh out on the Dutch circuit, after originally starting from the back of the grid after an earlier citing lap crash.

Laverty added: “I was really fortunate today to have another shot at it and I got involved in the first corner and we all bouncing off each other in the first couple of corners and ended up into the top ten and made the most of it.”
