Linfoot, Rutter join Team GB for Phillip Island Classic

MCE British Superbike race winner Dan Linfoot and veteran Isle of Man TT winner Michael Rutter will join Team GB in defending their Phillip Island Classic title this January.

Four out of the nine riders remain the same this year, with Jeremy McWilliams, Peter Hickman, Michael Neeves and former Australian rider, now turned Englishman Glen Richards all coming back to the Island to defend the International Challenge trophy.
Craig Ditchburn and Derek Brown, who used to hail from Letchworth, now living in Sydney, have been drafted into the team, while for 2018 there will be three new recruits flying the Union Jack flag.

North West 200 winner Lee Johnston has also been recruited to join the effort as he completes the new line up which replaces John McGuinness, James Hillier and Conor Cummins - all unavailable.

Team leader Jeremy McWilliams has openly admitted that he still gets ‘butterflies’ ahead of the iconic event. This year more so, because the 53-year-old hasn’t been training, nor riding much in 2017.

“The International Island Classic requires a big effort,” said McWilliams, who is aiming to win the Ken Wootton Perpetual Trophy for a fifth time in 2018.

“Team USA and Australia have realised that coming second or third isn't much fun and wheeled in the big guns with Colin Edwards, Troy Corser, Jason Pridmore and Jake Zemke all joining the party.

"With John [McGuinness] missing next year's event, through injury, and Connor [Cummins] and James [Hillier] not able to attend we needed to recruit a few names of our own. Team GB have had it all our own way lately, winning the team and individual honours for the last three years and hopefully with our new rider line up, we can continue this winning streak.”
