Lowes makes MotoGP debut with Monster Yamaha at Brno test

Britain’s Alex Lowes has finally got his first taste of MotoGP at the Brno test, putting in some tentative laps on Pol Espargaro’s Monster Yamaha this afternoon.

The Pata Yamaha World Superbike star had to wait until mid-afternoon due to track contamination at the circuit but finally headed out on the satellite YZR-M1. Lowes put in 15 laps on the bike with a best of 1’59.558 but then lost the front as he ran wide onto a dirty part of the track.

“The bike is just unbelievable, the power, the gearbox, seriously unbelieveable. On the first lap, I thought I was in some sort of time machine. I didn’t keep it at 100 per cent throttle on the straight on the first lap, I had to shut off, it felt so fast,” said Lowes, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

“The brakes are as sharp as a razor. I thought they were going to put me over the handlebars, so I had to get used to that pretty quickly. Honestly, it was a proper, really great experience and I really enjoyed it.

“Obviously, the crash wasn’t good, I had to learn the bike, the track, the tyres, the brakes and had 15 laps to go half-decently. It just rolled on to the dirty part of the track and just tucked the front.

“I have to say a massive thanks to Yamaha for the opportunity, it was a fantastic experience.”
