Lowes ‘pleased’ with Suzuka Superpole pace

Britain’s Alex Lowes says he is happy with his pace in today’s Suzuka Eight-Hours Superpole but feels he could have gone quicker save for a mistake in the first sector which cost him three-tenths of a second.

The Yoshimura Suzuki man set the sixth-fastest lap overall with a 2’07.144 and his squad will start from fifth in tomorrow’s race at the iconic circuit after team-mate Takaya Tsuda set a 2’06.516.

“It was good, I am happy because it’s my first time here and the only test I did was mostly wet. OK, I am a little disappointed as I made a mistake in sector one which was three-tenths slower that my previous best so that was a shame,” said Lowes, speaking to bikesportnews.com from the track.

“I wanted to get in the 2’06s but I am probably being a bit harsh on myself as everything here is still pretty new to me and there has been a lot to learn. There isn’t much to look at in terms of one-lap pace as we have eight hours of it tomorrow, so I know it is going to be a difficult race but I am excited to have a go and see how we get on.”
