Milwaukee Yamaha confident Parkes is up to the ‘challenge’

Milwaukee Yamaha’s line-up is complete and it’s quite an Aussie-fest with Broc Parkes linking up with Josh Brookes in the MCE British Superbike championship, and team manager Mick Shanley is confident Parkes is up to the challenge.

The former PBM rider has raced on some circuits in the UK, but will need to learn some others like Knockhill and Thruxton for BSB in 2015. The team have the brand spanking new R1 at their HQ and Shanley is already impressed with the base package, particularly when it comes to horsepower.

“We signed Josh earlier in the year and we secured Broc to partner up with him and we will have a strong team. It is slightly different being a team manager than just crew chief, now we have got a strong Yamaha involvement and it makes sense for my role to change a bit, to take care of that.

"Broc’s got quite a challenge; we have got a lot of work on in general with the new bike. For a start we have to make that into a race bike, and obviously getting the riders used to that. Broc has done a few circuits in Britain but there are few he hasn’t done like Knockhill, Cadwell and Thruxton but overall he has been to a lot of circuits and has done some Showdown rounds too.

“I would like to think 2015 will be a winning year. Yamaha have done a fantastic effort with the R1 and it has an incredible base package and we have been running the old bike for a while and it is getting a bit tired so for the new one to come out is brilliant. It is really light and small, and has great horsepower and it is up to us to make it into a solid race package.”
