Misano WSBK: Race day pub ammo

Tom Sykes

• has edged out Troy Bayliss and he is now on the second all-time poles spot: 27 to Troy Corser’s 43;
• he became the first rider to claim four consecutive poles at Misano. Only Troy Corser has scored more poles at Misano (6);
• Tom gave Kawasaki their 50th pole in history: they are the second manufacturer in the all-time standings behind Ducati (167);
• in the last five qualifying sessions he has been in pole position or on the second spot of the grid (sequence started in Assen). He is at his sixth consecutive front row (since the Aragon Round at MotorLand);
• 56 podiums, the same number as his team-mate Jonathan Rea: Raymond Roche lies in 10th all-time position at 57;
• 24 wins under his belt: he was overtaken by his team-mate Jonathan Rea (25) as the most successful among the current riders, after the Portuguese Round;
• with a double win, Kawasaki would become the first manufacturer other than Ducati to win 10 consecutive WorldSBK races

Leon Haslam

• has scored his best grid spot since his pole in MotorLand and keeps his record of having always qualified within the top-5 so far this year;
• fifth front row of the season: he has already equalled his season record set in 2010 and 2012;
• this year he has always finished within the first four positions, apart from race 2 at Imola and race 1 at Portimao, when he crashed out

Davide Giugliano

• 20th front row in his career: he reached his compatriot Michel Fabrizio at the 24th all-time spot;
• 7 consecutive races on the front row (since from Jerez last year);
• from 2012 to 2014 he has recorded two podiums per season. This year he has already claimed two (Imola/1, Algarve/2) – considering that his 2015 season started at round 5 at Imola

Jonathan Rea

• two consecutive races without being on the front row: the first time for him since from last year (Laguna Seca and Jerez);
• he was on the podium in the last 15 races. His best career sequence. The second all-time string (16 Troy Corser, 2005: Losail/1- Brands Hatch/2);
• he has only finished first and second this year (10 wins, 5 second places);
• 25 wins, his next target would be to beat Doug Polen with 27 (6th all-time);
• After the Portuguese Round he has scored 330 points in 14 races; the WorldSBK points record belongs to Troy Bayliss after 16 races: 360 in 2002, followed by Neil Hodgson, with 355 in 2003;
• his points lead now is 124; 136 is the largest points lead ever recorded after 16 races (1995 Fogarty over Troy Corser);
• with a double podium finish he would equal the record of 16 podiums in the first 16 races of the season: this was set only once by Troy Corser in 2005

Max Biaggi

• after two and a half years away from racing, he now equals his second-best grid spot at Misano (5th), recorded in his first two race weekends at Misano (2007 and 2008). He was second on the grid here in 2010, scoring a double in the races;
• He is the oldest rider to step onto the podium: 41 years, 2 months and 28 days (Portimao/2, 2012) and he has the chance to beat his own record . He is also the only rider to win a race having turned 40 (41 years, 2 months and 14 days, Nurburgring 2012/1)

And the rest

Chaz Davies (11th) missed out on a top-10 grid spot for the first time since from the UK Round at Donington 2014: he has always qualified within the top-8 since from that date (14 race weekends). Chaz claimed 9 podiums so far this year; one more would result in a new personal record and, at the same time, it would equal the number of rostrum finishes he scored in the two-year period 2013-2014
• If a Ducati steps onto the podium, this would be the podium finish n. 800 for the Italian Manufacturer; both the 600th (Regis Laconi, 2005/2) and the 700th podium (Shane Byrne + Michel Fabrizio 2009/1) have been recorded at Misano
• Any Italian rider’s race win would be the 100th victory for his nation in WSBK. None of the current Italian regular riders has won a WSBK race yet, only wild card entry at this round, Max Biaggi.
