MotoGP Aragon: Alex Lowes in doubt after free practice three crash

Britain’s Alex Lowes may be forced to sit out tomorrow’s Aragon MotoGP race after a crash in free practice three left him with a badly bruised foot and the Monster Yamaha man will assess his fitness in the morning.

Lowes fell at the fastest corner of the track and didn’t take part in either free practice four or qualifying but doesn’t want to end his race weekend in Spain without making the start.

“It’s clear to say that I am very disappointed about what happened today because I love riding the Yamaha YZR-M1 as well as racing with the Monster Yamaha Tech3 Team and at this round, I wanted to keep on improving just like I have done in the past two GPs,” said Lowes.

“With regards to the crash, I feel a bit unlucky to have fallen on the first lap, but a few other riders also did at this time in the session too. Yet, unfortunately for me it was at the fastest corner of the track and in fact, it was one of the biggest crashes of my career so I think that I am really lucky to walk away with this injury and nothing worse.

“I have to say sorry to the entire team and the mechanics who have all worked really hard in my full three races with them. They have been fantastic, plus they made me feel welcome. We will see what happens tomorrow morning, but it would certainly be a pity to end my MotoGP experience with Tech3 in this way.”
