Moto2 race winner Sam Lowes says he will fight all the way to the end of the season after putting himself back in the championship game at Aragon.

And the Brit revealed that even if he doesn’t get close to title, he wants to prove himself worthy of next year’s MotoGP ride.

Lowes took an empathic win in the Spanish sunshine after one of his strongest weekends in a long time, and attributes it to new forks which he tried for the first time in a two day test at Valencia earlier this month that have given him extra confidence.

“We got new forks which just gave it a bit more feeling,” he said “Obviously I slide the bike a lot into the corner so when the bike comes back in line, when we have the harder tyre and the rear especially, it is a strange feeling in the front and these new forks helped a bit.

“There were new forks two or three races ago and then we had a new version last week and it was definitely much better and I think it just gave me that added confidence.”

Today Lowes won by 3.289 seconds over Alex Marquez, and closed the gap to championship leader Johann Zarco to 40 points. Zarco has 202, one more than Alex Rins on 201 while Sam has 162.

And with four rounds left it is possible for Lowes to leapfrog them both and leave Moto2 as champion, something he is now seriously thinking about. And he knows if either have a bad race, things could change dramatically

“Now they’re really close it’s going to be difficult for them so I’m in a good position, you know. Japan I love, Phillip Island’s my best track so it could be good. If they get caught up at Japan and then I go to Phillip Island and have a good weekend, who knows. It’s on.

I’m going to give it everything, I’m going to MotoGP next year I got nothing to lose. I’ve had a bad few races but this puts us right back in there – not really in the championship, but right back in there to prove myself.

“In Moto2, I’m not being big headed but to win a race like that in that way, not everyone can do that, it’s good.

“That’s important to me, going up to Moto GP you need to prove that you’re worthy of it and hopefully I am doing and it’s not over yet, it’s definitely not over so we’ll keep pushing.”

“I feel good, I think if we can just keep working hard, keep putting the laps in, the bikes in a good way now.”
