MotoGP Aragon: Martin defies the odds to secure 17th Moto3 pole

Jorge Martin left it late but secured yet another Moto3 pole position with a stunning last gasp lap around Aragon.

Sitting down at the back of the second row with just three minutes remaining, Martin came out alongside Gresini teammate Fabio Di Giannantonio. Despite some late traffic, Martin used a slipstream on the back straight, fought through the field to produce a stunning 1'57.066, which put him more than half a second clear of the rest of the field.

Jaume Masia was ‘best of the rest’ and will start from the middle of the front row after his late lap moved him half a tenth ahead of Enea Bastianini who rounded out the front row on his Leopard bike.

Tony Arbolino will start from fourth and the head of the second row on his Honda just ahead of Italian compatriots Dennis Foggia and Marco Bezzecchi. Nico Antonelli made it five Italians in a row with his seventh place ahead of long time session leader Gabi Rodrigo, with Aron Canet in ninth.

Di Giannantonio made it six Italians in the top ten as he heads the fourth row in tenth with Adam Norrodin just 0.001 seconds ahead of Marcos Ramirez who will start from eleventh and twelfth respectively.

It was a tough session for John McPhee who couldn’t string together the perfect lap. As a result the Scot will be starting from 23rd on the grid, alongside Jeremy Alcoba and Vicente Perez.
