MotoGP Aragon: Tyre woes blamed for Dovizioso's 'disaster' race

Andrea Dovizioso was left frustrated after a ‘disaster’ of an Aragon MotoGP which saw him drop from fourth to 11th in the 23-lap race.

The Ducati Team rider had been looking strong yesterday, but it all went wrong today when he struggled with bad front tyre issues which made him unable to mount any sort of challenge.

“It’s really frustrating to finish 11th especially after a good Saturday because I’m very happy how we work yesterday, we created a really good pace with a difficult condition at a difficult track for us,” he said.

“What happened is after four laps I have the first feeling the front didn’t work like Saturday, because Saturday we try that tyre and it was the best tyre and I couldn’t brake with angle and I couldn’t keep high speed.

“I lose the front and after that I lose the feeling on the front everywhere. I couldn’t brake, I couldn’t make a good speed so it was a disaster. I couldn't push, I couldn’t make a low 49, I had no pace.”

Dovizioso and team-mate Michele Pirro had both chosen the medium front and rear, and the Italian said the problem didn’t stop there.

“After that the tyre turned to the wheel and create a deep vibration. When you’re on the bike you don’t know exactly from where come the problem, where start the problem and I was worried about if I have a big problem on the front tyre but the reality was it was the vibration.

“So I had two problem but the real reason I had to slow down was completely the front tyre.

“We can’t yet understand if it’s more about the tyre side or the Ducati side. I think Ducati and Michelin are in the same situation, both want to fix the problem so we are working really hard and to fix it.”
