Estrella Galicia Marc VDS rider Jack Miller has a lot to celebrate this evening, after a stunning performance out on a very wet Assen circuit, where he was able to cross the finishing line in first place ahead of Repsol Honda's Marc Marquez, to clinch his maiden MotoGP victory.
The likeable Australian made the jump from Moto3 to MotoGP and was pleased that Honda 'took a gamble' on him and has hailed his win as 'amazing' and stated that it has given him a 'little bit of a confidence boost'.
He feels the bike is improving and is looking forward to testing at the Red Bull Ring soon. But he adopted the mantra that was made famous by Marquez which was, 'glory or hospital', and with that mentality he was able to ease to the win at the Dutch track.
"It gives Honda something back, taking such a big gamble on me. The risk those guys have taken to bring me straight from Moto3 to MotoGP and the amount of criticism they got and I got it's a big thanks to them. The gamble makes it all worth while and it is an amazing feeling," said Miller, at the circuit.
"The bike is getting better and better week by week and the guys are testing a lot of parts and I am looking forward to the test in the Red Bull ring to try some new things. (On track) I could see Marquez a little bit behind but I could hear him but then also Scott and Pol and I tired to manage the gap.
"I had this sort of mentality, like (Marquez) has a famous saying, glory or hospital and I feel this a bit today. I had this sort of mentality, and when I saw him not pushing too much I tried to get into a rhythm and it was enough to bring it home.
"This helps our project a bit and gets it back on its feet and I mean it is always good to get a victory and to do it like this is really nice and this gives me a little bit of a confidence boost. It has almost been like a dream to me back when I was riding in Moto3 to go directly from Moto3 to MotoGP, and these guys really supported it and put their trust in us and it is really nice."
At first, before the race was red flagged because of heavy rain, Miller opted for the harder rear wet tyre, but when a twelve lap restart was declared he went for the softer rear and it helped out on the sodden track.
Miller added: "The rear tyre choice, I went for the harder option in the first race and the second race was only twelve laps and I we saw how the rear tyre was like in the first race. The front tyre was a bit stiff and we put in the softer one and we changed some things with the suspension and it helped."
