MotoGP Assen: Lorenzo to try a 'completely different setting'

Movistar Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo wants to ‘try something different’ with the set-up of his M1, after finding he was four tenths off the pace of leading riders, Valentino Rossi and Ducati’s Andrea Iannone, during the second MotoGP free practice session in Assen.

The current champion wants to be more competitive and improve his pace, and for two years has struggled with speed on the T4 section on the Dutch circuit. Now he wants to try a ‘different direction’ going into qualifying tomorrow, after setting a 1’33.991 which placed him P5 on the timesheets.

“This afternoon we were more competitive, we miss three or four tenths in pace and we will try a completely different setting to see what we feel. Also to see if we are in the right direction, or if we need to go in a completely different direction,” said Lorenzo at the track today.

Like his rival and fellow Yamaha team-mate, Valentino Rossi he also tested an upgraded chassis as well as a standard frame during FP1 and FP2 today but felt that he needed more time to decide which chassis he will use for the race on Sunday.

Lorenzo added: “Tomorrow I have decided to have a little bit more time to decide. I want to do more laps on it (the new chassis). The last three or four years I still haven’t had the speed here (in T4) and we need to fight for the victory and we need one more practice tomorrow. I want to improve, and improve the bike to be more competitive and I think we can do it if we have more practice in the dry.

“Since 2014, with my natural line at T4 and the last chicane, I’m not fast enough. We need to try something different, every year I try to do something different but it still not working. I need to improve my pace.”
