MotoGP Assen: Zarco again under fire from Rossi

Monster Yamaha’s Johann Zarco has again come under fire from Valentino Rossi after the pair collided on lap 11 of yesterday’s Assen MotoGP thriller.

Rossi had passed Zarco for the lead at Haarbocht but ran wide through Ossebroeken and Zarco decided, in Rossi fashion, to stick it back up the inside as soon as was possible but as The Doctor closed his line, the pair rubbed and it cost the Frenchman a place as Marc Marquez pounced.

“I start to think he’s not a bad guy, he just doesn’t understand the size between one bike to the other. Because also today, like in Austin, he tried something impossible,” said Rossi, speaking at Assen.

“I don’t know why, it was just my line. For me when you overtake another one you have to calculate also that the other one cannot disappear. He was a lot in delay, he took me on the leathers. He’s aggressive, ok, until everything is good, he’s like this. Like Marc says, this is MotoGP, everybody has to be aggressive and it’s like this.”

Zarco immediately defended his actions, as he did when the pair touched at COTA, saying he was unsighted as he was looking to his right when he made the attempt.

“When he overtook me he went a little bit wide twice, so I took immediately the opportunity, seeing if he can be wide. I wanted to keep leading because it would be better for me to keep the pace, being the leader. When he went a little bit wide I tried to go inside but he was quite fast also, so we touched each other.

“I really tried to keep the corner speed inside, but his corner speed was quite good so we are both on the right side – I am on his right with my head totally to the right. I cannot see, I just take the decision and I wait if we will have contact or not.”
